A good vibes bi-weekly update from Sayulita, Mexico
The 9th Annual Auxiliary Lifeguard Training was held on March 13th and 14th. It was a HUGE success! The class consisted of 43 men and women aged 11-40. It is estimated that over 200 people have now been trained in the Bahia Banderas. Instructors from the municipal Lifeguard Program trained participants in water rescue skills, CPR, spinal management, both in and out of the water, and endurance. The weather was perfect both days, with just enough wave action to make some of the workshops challenging.
Darany Souza, the Director of Proteccion Civil, attended the closing ceremony and handed out certification to all who participated.
We have now formed a core group of Sayulita Surf Rescue members who will meet with Proteccion Civil to work on plans for coverage of the beach during Semana Santa. Our Bahia Surf Rescue Facebook page will be renamed Sayulita Surf Rescue. Please find us on Facebook and like our page.
Finally, we will be holding our first annual Sayulita Surf Rescue Fundraiser on March 21st. It will be held on the terraza at La Rustica from 5-7PM. Thank you Rodrigo PS for donating the space and what are sure to be, some yummy appetizers. This year’s project is to raise funds to build 3 more Lifeguard Towers and to support the Auxiliary Lifeguard coverage over Semana Santa.
Thanks to everyone for your ongoing support!
