Custodians boot Justin Bieber from Tulum ruin

TULUM, Q. Roo — The Canadian singer Justin Bieber was thrown out of the archaeological site of Tulum in Quintana Roo Thursday Jan. 7, after his security personnel got into a verbal altercation with custodians of the site, Spanish news agency Efe reported.

Adriana Velazquez, delegate of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in Quintana Roo, told Efe that the discussion occurred because the singer wanted to climb a structure in the ruins of the ancient Mayan city, which is not allowed by the authorities.

The custodians asked for help from the Federal Gendarmeria, who sent officers to the scene, but “its intervention was not necessary” because tempers calmed, Velazquez said.

However, Bieber was not allowed to complete his tour and had to leave the archaeological site, one of the most visited in the country, located in the Riviera Maya.

The pop star, 21, has been touring the area in recent days in the company of friends and later swam with dolphins in a private dolphinarium.

On Tuesday he visited the Mayan Jungle park and upon his arrival he was recognized by some tourists, when the singer went to the ticket office to pay the tickets for the entire group.

The singer, who is also composer and actor, asked that others visiting the park be removed so his group could more comfortably enjoy their tour, but administrators told him that wasn’t possible because the tourists were already inside, and instead offered him privacy during his tour.
