If you enjoy meeting friends at a neighborhood bar, this is going to be your new favorite hang out! La Parrilla Restaurante Sports Bar has everything needed for a comfortable good time: sharp décor; big screen TVs that offer all international sports; stellar bar offerings, live entertainment, and excellent food. A successful Canadian restaurateur, Dan Shields, is setting the new standard with this venue because it earns a gold metal in amenities.
Located in La Penita 3 streets south of the Avenida at the corner of Bahia de Guaymas Sur and Calle Lazaro de Cardenas, you can make reservations on their Facebook page or telephone 322 380 4381.
The charm starts when you enter the French doors and notice the live plants and twinkling mini lights in the ceiling. The unique Mexican string art sets the mood with its quirky subject matter. The restaurant’s sophisticated color palate is calming and a nice counterpoint to the tropic sunshine. It’s inviting, it’s cozy, it’s easy to relax with a cold beverage and cheer on your favorite team! The current hours of operation for August are 1:00 pm until 10:00 pm. but will vary according to the sports schedule throughout the year.
The well stocked bar includes three types of wine, five different beers, besides tequila and other hard liquors. The bartender can prepare your favorite cocktail upon request. La Parrilla also offers a stroll up access to the bar- you don’t need to come in to get your beverage to go!
It’s exciting that Dan has set a limited number of entrées on the menu: “I prefer to do a few dishes exceptionally well rather than offer pages of mediocre fare.” But that’s not to say that it’s not a complete menu because with pizza, burger, shrimp, pasta, ribs, salad, who needs anything else? In Dan’s previous restaurant in British Columbia, Dan perfected quality international dishes that he is headlining in his new La Penita restaurant. “The recipe for my burger evolved over years but focuses on the meat- no filler added to distract from the flavor, “ explained Dan. “I make each dish fresh from quality ingredients.”
In addition to the set menu, Dan will offer daily specials during high season based on customer’s preferences. You can book reservations for a group or private parties by calling Dan 322 380 4381. Already, it’s a good idea to make reservations on the live music nights because it fills up quickly. You can dine in or pick up your meal as take out.
La Parrilla also appeals to the music lovers because it’s the place to go to listen to Jaltemba Bays finish live musicians. Frad and Javier play on Thursday afternoons, and Frad hosts karaoke on Sundays from 5-9:00 pm. The talented Dave Gallagar performs Wednesday and Saturdays 6-9 pm. The music schedule may vary during prime sport season so be sure to stop by for updates.
La Parrilla Restaurante & Sports Bar is open every day November through April.
