2018 Music & Art Festival in Chacala, Riviera Nayarit

Puerto de Chacala, Nayarit, Mexico – It’s March and you know what that means… it’s time for the annual Chacala Music and Art Festival!
Every year in March, the Chacala Music and Art Festival brings musicians and other artists together in the Riviera Nayarit for a four day and night celebration, complete with sing-alongs and dancing in the streets, as well as art exhibits, workshops and authentic Mexican food and spirits.
This year’s festival, scheduled to take place from March 15-18, 2018 in Chacala-by-the-sea, a relaxing fishing village in the heart of the Riviera Nayarit, just 50 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, includes art exhibitions, printmaking, a children’s tent with workshops and theater, plus a gastronomic pavilion (food stands), which opens at 5:00 pm daily.
Plus of course, all the main stage action, with live performances starting at 5:00 pm every day. The entertainment line-up will be as follows:
THURSDAY, MARCH 15, 2018
• Talent Night – Local performers of any discipline are invited to wow the crowd on stage. There will be a prize for the winner! Look out for classical piano, Mexican folk dance and much more.
FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 2018
• Friday’s presentation opens with local music students.
• Makupa – He is a soloist that plays Electric Folk Cello and is from Puebla, Mexico. He plays only original music, no covers, consisting of electronic backing track and his cello. He also does Mexican folk tap dance on stage in some sections of his compositions. Check out his YouTube music video.
• Autistas – This is a fresh new rock band from Guadalajara, Jalisco founded in January 2016. Check out their YouTube music video.
• Majesty – This is an original reggae fusion band from Guadalajara, Jalisco. Majesty was created by Pako de los Ríos, who set out to bring together a group of friends and professional musicians with the desire to make different reggae music, with their own sound and using their compositions to do something new. Each musician contributes his own style, talent & technique, which makes for a totally original type of Latin reggae. Check out their YouTube music video.
SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2018
• Saturday’s presentation opens with local music students.
• Mariachi Juvenil San Miguel “Los Pollitos” – An excellent group from Miguel Azuza, Zacatecas composed of young musicians.
• Ballet Folklorico Mexcaltitan – The Ballet Mexcaltitán was founded in 1989 by the choreographer Sergio Eugenio García Pérez in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. Its objective is to promote and consolidate the folkloric dance of said state, to make it unique and represent the region. However, the company also performs other Latin American and contemporary dances, as well as other Mexican styles. Check out their YouTube video.
• Quinta Kalavera – Mexican band Reggae, Ska and Gozadera that was formed at the beginning of 2011 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. This original project arises with the union of 5 musicians from Guadalajara, who when they meet decided to risk creating a series of new sounds, fusing diverse genres such as rock, urban music, Latin rhythms, reggae and dubstep, with unique brush strokes of their different influences, also the social protest, the enjoyment of life, the party, love and lack of love form the body of the lyric that complements the sound mosaic of the band. SUNDAY, MARCH 18, 2018
• Sunday’s presentation opens with local music students.
• Ojo de Agua – Composed of professional musicians from the local area (between Lima de Abajo and Las Varas, Nayarit), Ojo de Agua presents Cuban music, cha cha cha, salsa and other Latin rhythms with electric and acoustic guitar, flute, percussion and bass. Check out their YouTube music video.
• Panta Rei – Made up of friends from different parts of the world, Panta rei is born of cultural exchange, with music being the channel to connect ideas and spirit. Guadalupe Mediavilla leads this group with an unforgettable voice and the typical Argentinian accordion. Check out their YouTube music video.
• Gypsy Rumba – Gypsy Rumba is a group of flamenco and gypsy music, composed by the guitarist Cheko Ruiz, the percussionist Alex González, the guitarist Alberto Ramírez, the violinist Eugenia Prieto and the bassist Emmanuel de la Rosa. Cheko Ruiz is also a vocalist and composer in this special group and much loved in the Puerto Vallarta area. He has been nominated several times, his nominations include John Lennon Songwriting Contest as the best song in the music category of the world. Check out their YouTube music video.
